The best place to watch the sunset in Yosemite!

Do you want to know where the perfect place to see the sunset in Yosemite National Park is?

On my recent trip to Yosemite National Park my sister told me that I had to watch the sunset from Sentinel Dome, and she was right. With 360 degree views of Yosemite valley, it’s a must see. Sentinel Dome has to be the easiest place to get to with some of the most spectacular views of Yosemite, making it the perfect location to watch the sunset.

The easiest way to get to Sentinel Dome for sunset is to drive. The drive takes around 1 hour from Yosemite Valley and then there is a short 30min hike from the carpark to the top. The walk is relatively easy without any elevation gain until the last section when you climb the dome itself. The climb isn’t very long and is relatively safe. Depending on the time of year it may be covered in snow.

We were fortunate enough to have some great cloud cover allowing for some spectacular colours lighting the canyon below.

Make sure you leave just after the sun falls below the horizon so you aren’t walking back to the car in the dark or pack a torch.
