My First Drone
For years I have wanted to get my hands on a drone to get some amazing aerial footage. Last week a package arrived on my desk. A small box containing my first drone, the DJI Mavic Pro. For those who aren’t sure what I am talking about, the Mavic is the smallest and most advanced drone in its category.
I watched a bunch of tutorials, charged the batteries, updated the systems and headed for the oval behind my house. It was so easy to get in the air and start having fun. My first two flights were at the oval getting used to the controls and how the camera worked. I flew the drone in a wide-open space pretending that there were obstacles in my way so I could get a good understanding of what to do when out in the wild.
On my third flight with the DJI Mavic I headed to a small beach near my house in Sydney. The area is called Cabbage Tree Bay Aquatic Reserve and is perfect for flying a drone. The shots from the air blew my mind. This thing was even better than I could imagine. It’s so stable and the obstacle avoidance system was great at letting me know when I was getting a little too close to trees.
I highly recommend the DJI Mavic Pro to anyone looking to get their first drone or people wanting something a little more portable.
